I don’t publish your book for you but I will walk you through the maze of self-publishing, assisting you at every step and teaching you what needs to be done. This way the next time you publish a book, you’ll be able to do it yourself.

If you’d rather use a self-publishing service that will do the work for you, I can make some recommendations.

The length of time it will take to publish your book depends on a few things:

• Are all your files (cover and text) ready?
• Have you set up your sales dashboards?
• Have you got your ISBNs? (If you want your own.)
• etc.

Keep in mind that my coaching is about more than helping you upload your files to the various retailers. I also help authors get everything in place (like the items above) so that they can quickly and easily publish.

Having said all that, it typically takes 3 to 5 1-hour sessions to organize and publish a book.

I focus on formatting the following kinds of books:

• fiction
• memoir
• middle grade novels

I don’t format the following:

• poetry
• photo-heavy books
• academic text books
• non-fiction that has numerous side-bars
• children’s picture books

Yes, I can design the interior files for your book for:

• paperback
• hardback
• large print and
• ebook.

Yes! You absolutely can format your book yourself. If you’re comfortable with technology and have good attention to detail there are several options for DIY formatting available, including:

Great question! My services are helpful for those authors who aren’t really comfortable with the technology required to format a book and/or they aren’t interested in developing that skill.

Could you change the oil in your car yourself? Probably. Do you want to learn how to do that? Maybe not. (I certainly don’t.)

That being said, some authors enjoy doing ALL the parts of publishing a novel, including cover design and formatting the interior files. Others want support for some of the tasks required to publish a book.

I began learning about self-publishing in 2009 when I published my first book. Then I began formatting my own books in 2016. Shortly after that I began helping author friends format their books. I began my formatting business in about 2021 and have been doing it ever since.

The way I see it there are no wrong ways to publish a book. Each author must decide for themselves which route to publishing fits them best. Publishing your book independently (i.e., self-publishing) offers many advantages to authors including control over the book and a much higher royalty percentage per book sold. However, publishing with a traditional publisher has its own advantages. As with any choice, the best way to proceed is to educate yourself. I recommend this post at The Creative Penn.
